There have been media releases on Billy Slater being expected to be announced as ambassador for Racing Queensland. The story has been released in different types of writing. These chosen two particular media releases are presented in statement and news story.
Compare and Contrast
In the media statement, it is shown that the story has been communicated through the use of direct quotes. It is published by Queensland government and therefore it is a formal statement. The statement is presented using quotes from both Billy Slater, “‘I loved attending the races as a kid…’Said Slater,” (Government, 2016) and authorised personnel involved in the story, “‘Billy is an exceptional athlete and a fantastic ambassador for Queensland,’ said Adams” (Government, 2016).
Whereas, in the news story, the quotes are from Slater, “‘it could be an option…’ Slater Said at the time” (Davidson, 2016). The news article focuses more on Slater’s background though Racing Queensland is mentioned, it is not primary message.
Both media releases reference authorised personnel to maintain authenticity. Greyhound scandal is also mentioned in both articles so this can be considered a related coverage to some extent.

As a supporter of Queensland’s Maroons, undertaking week 1 blog is enjoyable. Comparing same story in different ways is challenging but at the end, it helps me understand different types of writings in media Industry.
Week 1 Quiz is consist of 8 questions and I got one incorrect which is about citation. I’m glad I did the quiz before publishing my blog because I would’ve used wrong punctuation.
